Out of all the posts I’ve done thus far, this post is the one that is most near and dear to my heart! On Wednesday February 20, 2013, the Sisters of The Blessed Sacrament Announced that Xavier University Preparatory High School will be closing at the end of the 2012-2013 school year (July 2013). I simply gasped as I read the headlines of local news stations in New Orleans, LA. This school is not only apart of New Orleans history but my history as well. I attended Xavier Prep before moving to Atlanta, GA 94-95. My mother, various family members, and close friends are alumni of Xavier Prep. Xavier Prep is an all girl Catholic High School that was founded by St. Katherine Drexel and The Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in 1915. The school was founded on catholic principles to educate African-Americans and Native Americans in the New Orleans community. “The Prep”, as the community fondly calls it, was Co-ed from 1915-1970. Xavier Prep is a leading college preparatory institution that has educated young women for 98 years. This school is near and dear to my heart and we must save it!! We cannot allow beautiful, young minds to be deprived from an excellent education and principles. To read more about Xavier University Preparatory High School visit:
